• February 7: Robert Gailen Orison is issued a Class D driver's license for the state of Illinois. (TXF: "Orison")
• A piece of petrified wood from the cross of Christ's crucifixion is found in Damascus, Syria and is put away for safe keeping by the Millennium Group. (MM: "Owls", "Roosters")
• In Blackwood County, North Texas, a boy named Stevie falls into a pit while digging holes in the ground with his three friends. In the pit, which is actually a cave, Stevie finds the bones of two primitive men who died in 35,000 B.C.. He also finds a puddle of a strange, black substance that enters his body and paralyses him.
• Later that day, Fire Captain Miles Cooles leads a failed attempt to find Stevie. He sends four men - T.C., Danny, Glenn and Sal - into the cave. Although the men are never recovered, a fleet of white Freightliner trucks and a helicopter carrying a doctor named Ben Bronschweig later arrive at the scene. (The X-Files Movie)
• A British soldier falls 4,500 feet when his parachute fails to open. He survives with a broken rib. (TXF: "The Goldberg Variation")

A legend in The X-Files Movie reads "present day". Since the movie was released in 1998, the legend could be interpreted as meaning that the movie's events also occurred in 1998.
