An Assistant Director is a rank within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is above the rank of Agent in the FBI's heirarchy, but an Assistant Director may occasionally be referred to as an agent. (TXF: "Tooms", "S.R. 819") Assistant Directors could be promoted to the position of Deputy Director. (TXF: "Within")
Assistant director is also a film-making role. (MM: "...Thirteen Years Later")
