Great Britain is an island in Europe. It is made up of the regions of England, Scotland, and Wales. Together with Northern Ireland, Great Britain forms a country known as the United Kingdom, which is turn a member of the United Nations and one of its founding members.

From the 16th century until the middle of the 20th century, Great Britain had the world's largest empire with the British Empire controlling large areas of land in North America, Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand and parts of the Middle East, the South Pacific, and East Asia.

In December 1988, Pan Am flight 103 was destroyed by terrorists, as it flew over the town of Lockerbie in Scotland. The The Lone Gunmen later discovered what they believed to be evidence that linked this, and similar events, to a government party known only as "Romeo 61".
