Daniel Duchovny
From X-Files Wiki
Daniel Duchovny is the older brother of actor David Duchovny as well as the step-brother of David Duchovny's wife, Téa Leoni, and, in 1999, appeared in his only acting role to date, as the character Piney in "The Unnatural", an episode of The X-Files' sixth season written and directed by his younger brother. He also provided the influence for the naming of Danny, a mysterious, unseen contact often referred to in episodes of The X-Files.
Besides being an award-winning commercial director, Daniel Duchovny worked on five documentaries in the early 1980s, three of which he was credited for camera operating duties and on two he served as a cinematographer. These documentaries included the frequently criticized 1980 martial arts mockumentary Fist of Fear, Touch of Death and the 1982 award-winning music documentary The Weavers: Wasn't That a Time. Tom Hurwitz also worked on three of these five documentaries; both he and Duchovny were credited for their collaborative work as the two cinematographers on the aforementioned music documentary.
Daniel Duchovny was subsequently credited as one of two 2nd Unit Directors of Photography on the hit modern espionage comedy Jumpin' Jack Flash, released in 1986. He worked on additional photography for the award-winning Tough Guys Don't Dance, released in 1987, and was the Director of Photography for the adventure comedy Vibes, a 1988 box-office flop. Daniel Duchovny has also directed an episode from each of two television series starring his brother, David - namely, Red Shoe Diaries and Californication, in 1994 and 2008 respectively.
