David Nutter (born 1960) is an American television and film director and television producer. He directed fifteen episodes of The X-Files and four episodes of Millennium, between 1993 and 1997.

Nutter has also directed episodes of ER, Roswell, Dark Angel, Smallville and The Sopranos, among other shows. His most recent claim to fame (as of 2013) is a highly acclaimed episode of Game of Thrones' third season, "The Rains of Castamere", which features a relatively well-known scene known as the "Red Wedding".

David Nutter has a nickname, "The Pilot Whisperer," which refers to his reputation as being a director of pilot episodes that are generally deemed successful. Until 2011, every show whose pilot he directed was commissioned for at least a full season. Although this ended when CBS decided not to pick up The Doctor, he had by then directed sixteen successful pilots, an unprecedented and still-unmatched streak. He is generally considered one of the best directors currently working in television.
