Federal Bureau of Investigation
From X-Files Wiki
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI, is a federal law enforcement agency of the United States of America. (TXF: "Pilot", et al.) An early name for the organization was the "Behavioral Science Unit", before that name was adopted by only a single department of the FBI. (MM: "The Innocents") The J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building, located in Washington, D.C., is the organization's headquarters. (TXF: "Pilot", et al.) Entry into the FBI requires the potential agent to pass a psyche screening. (TXF: "Pusher") However, some individuals are eligible for entitlement of honorary agent. (TXF: "The Goldberg Variation")
In 1946, Director J. Edgar Hoover opened the FBI's X-Files Unit, a department that focused on unsolved cases which seem to have an unexplained, paranormal element. (TXF: "Shapes", "Pilot") The cases in this department were labeled as X-files by the FBI and were stored in the basement of the J. Edgar Hoover FBI Building. From 1992, Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were assigned to work on the X-files, although the department was shut down on several occasions. Special Agents John Doggett and Monica Reyes were assigned to the X-files in 2002. (TXF: "The Truth")
