Kelly Ryan (played by Kate Twa) was born in 1965 and eventually became a detective with the Richmond Police Department in Virginia after being tutored as a student of Dana Scully. She asked for assistance from Scully and Mulder when investigating a bizarre series of murders and while searching for Dr. Chester Ray Banton. She was aware of Mulder's predilection for the bizarre and thought the agents would be able to help, despite the case being outside their jurisdiction. When Ryan finally found Dr. Banton she attempted to arrest him for said murders, but ignored his warnings to keep away from him and was instantly vaporized upon stepping into his shadow, which had become a freak dark matter entity. Scully was distraught at losing a student and thought that Ryan had great potential.
