Jinni

From X-Files Wiki

(Redirected from Jinniyah)
A jinniyah in human form, encountered in 2000.

A jinni (feminine form jinniyah) is a certain type of demon or spirit in Middle Eastern folklore.

They are spoken of as a being composed of flame and air, and often taking human form. They perform certain tasks or grant certain wishes, oftentimes only three wishes. They also live in inanimate objects, such as lamps, rings, or carpets. They pass from person to person as possessions. There are several classes of jinni, both good and evil, including the Ifrit class. All jinni carry the Mark of the Jinn.

In the 15th century, a young woman in France discovered an Ifrit in a rug given to her by an old Moor. She became a jinniyah when the Ifrit misinterpreted her wish. For the next 500 years, she granted wishes, often incorrectly, to several people, including Benito Mussolini, Richard Nixon and Fox Mulder, before Fox Mulder, who called her "Jenn," turned her into a human.
