- At one point in this episode, Scully refers to "the morning of the fourth", but she does not clarify which month she is referring to.
- This is only the second episode of The X-Files to be directed by a woman. Scully actress Gillian Anderson previously wrote and directed the Season 7 episode, "all things".
- Later the same year as this episode was broadcast, the Fox network aired a series entitled John Doe. The director of this episode and regular co-executive producer of The X-Files, Michelle MacLaren, also directed an episode of John Doe.
