Kim Manners (January 13, 1951 – January 25, 2009)
directed and produced 132 episodes of The X-Files television series, working on the series from 1995 to 2002.
He was the most prolific director on the show, having directed 52 episodes (just over 1/4 of the total episode count), and the longest serving (from the second season to the end). He was known for his perfectionist and demanding approach to directing, as well as his colorful language when things were not satisfactory; the foul-mouthed character of Detective Manners in Season 3's "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" was modeled after him.
Prior to collaborating on the series, he worked on Charlie's Angels, 21 Jump Street, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. After The X-Files ended in 2002 (having directed the final episode), he served as executive producer and occasional director on the series Supernatural. He passed away due to cancer on January 25, 2009.
Both the fourth season of Supernatural and a second season episode of Breaking Bad (whose creator, Vince Gilligan, worked with Manners on The X-Files) were dedicated to him.
