Phil Adderly

Phil Adderly (played by John Mese) was a sheriff in Vermont and husband to Ellen Adderly. He assisted Fox Mulder while investigating the disappearance and death of Martha Crittendon. Mulder discovered that Adderly was unsatisfied with his family life - he married Ellen solely because she became pregnant. Adderly was engaged in two affairs: one with Crittendon and one with Jenny Uphouse. Ellen was aware of his infidelity but pent up her frustration to maintain the image of a perfect home life. However, this frustration manifested as a dissociative personality disorder that led to her murdering both Crittendon and Uphouse. Adderly survived the ordeal, but his wife was institutionalized.
