Richard "Ringo" Langly (played by Dean Haglund) was one of the "Lone Gunmen" who printed out "The Lone Gunman" newspaper with Melvin Frohike and John Fitzgerald Byers often helped Mulder solve cases with their numerous skills and contacts. Langly once claimed to have had breakfast with the man who shot JFK in 1994 (TXF: "E.B.E.").

Richard Langly was from Saltville, Nebraska, where he grew up on a farm. Hating this, he would watch Television everyday to escape it, his favourite show as a child was "The Cap'n Toby Show". Years later while working with Melvin Frohike and John Fitzgerald Byers he helped vindicate Cap'n Toby, who had been framed as a spy selling state secrets to the Chinese. (TLG: "The Cap'n Toby Show")

Langly and Frohike helped Mulder break into the Lombard Research Facility while seeking a way to help with Scully's cancer. (TXF: "Memento Mori")

Langly died with the other Gunmen in 2002 protecting the world from a bio-terrorist. (TXF: "Jump the Shark")

[edit] Trademarks

Langly is most often seen wearing one of his many T-Shirts, primarily of rock bands such as The Ramones.

Perhaps his most distinguishing feature though, is his long blonde hair. Something which has, on several occasions, lead people to mistake him for a woman, although this is predominantly by older people, who may not have the best eyesight. Despite his annoyance at this, it has frequently helped in several occasions. When illegally using a clinic's computer to check a prescription number, an older doctor mistakes him for his receptionist, allowing him to continue, effectively unnoticed. (TLG: "Three Men and a Smoking Diaper) On another occasion, the combination of his hair and 'girly' scream misdirected Argentinian smugglers, who were looking for a woman after Langly unintentionally blew his cover when spying undercover during one of their drops. (TLG: "Tango de los Pistoleros)

Langly also plays Dungeons and Dragons, often for money, under the name of "Lord Manhammer".TXF: "Unusual Suspects"

[edit] Background Information

The only description of Langly provided in the script of TXF: "E.B.E.", in which he first appears with the other Lone Gunmen, states, "thick lenses in black framed eyeglasses - he wears a Ramones T-shirt".

An early version of the script for TXF: "Unusual Suspects" gives Langly's name as "Ringo", but this fact did not make it into the final episode and that name was never used in any subsequent episode of The X-Files. His full name was first revealed in the opening credits from The Lone Gunmen series, in which his name is given as "Richard 'Ringo' Langly". It is unknown why he would have a nickname based on his first name, when everyone calls him by his surname.
