Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist often referred to as the father of psychoanalysis. Followers of Freud's teachings are often referred to as "freudians." (TXF: "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose")

Along with Jonas Salk, Francis Crick, and James D. Watson, he is considered by some as one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century. (TXF: "Paper Clip")

One of Freud's theories involved what he called "death/wish imagining." The subtext from various fairy tales, such as[Snow White and Alice in Wonderland are often described this way. (TXF: "Irresistible")

Like William Shakespeare and Carl Jung, he was known for having a gift to see into human nature. (TXF: "Milagro")

FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder was often referred to as a freudian (TXF: "Duane Barry"; "Unruhe"), although he didn't consider himself one. (TXF: "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose")
