Talk:Pilot (The X-Files)
From X-Files Wiki
Does anyone have any idea why this episode is 1x79, instead of, for example, 1x00?
1 out of 79 episodes?
- I don't know why, but the production code number isn't necessarily the order in which the episodes are broadcast. Take a look at Season 5 and you'll see the air date of many episodes are out of order.
- For what it's worth, the pilot of Millennium was 4C79 and the pilot of The Lone Gunmen was 1AEB79.
- Must mean somthing...

Hi, I just wanted to tell you about this, I don't feel entitled to add it on my own, you probably wouldn't believe me anyway. In the scene where Scully reads the news articles about the victims on the plane to Oregon, I zoomed in on the articles and tried to figure out what they said. Both articles had the following paragraph in them:
"Rumours have it that Canadian film technician, Terry Weaver, has been taken in for questioning and just flat outright denies everything that is asked. In fact, when they asked him the caliber of a 9mm weapon, he told them all to go screw themselves with a fork. The investigations continue."
Terry Weaver is listed as Assistant Property Manager for this episode! Quite a nice easter egg I think. I also uploaded a snapshot for proof, look at the second paragraph: http://www.bilder-hosting.de/show/SNQEO.html --62.167.37.155 23:44, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] 1x79
Not knowing precisely why, I can't say for sure, but I would imagine that it's the same reason that the episode is called "Pilot"; because it was the pilot episode. This was made well before anyone knew that it would be part of a nine season show. Calling it 1x79 gives it a sense of being some part of an ongoing series, rather than the beginning of something.
Also... is it possible that the production code numbers relate to The X-Files timeline, rather than air dates? I haven't checked, but it could be that all the MOTW episodes are given loose production codes? Are there any of the mytharc episodes which have production codes out of order?
